Dr Anu jain on Instagram: "What is anencephaly? Anencephaly is a serious birth defect in which a baby is born without a major part of the brain, skull, and scalp. It happens very early in pregnancy—often before a woman even knows she is pregnant. Why does it happen? During the first month of pregnancy, the baby’s brain and spinal cord start forming from a structure called the neural tube. In anencephaly, the upper part of this tube does not close properly, so the brain does not develop normally.
