After five years of restoration it is now complete, one of the longest and largest conservation projects ever undertaken at IWM Duxford. The Handley Page (HP) Victor was a jet-powered, strategic bomber which, alongside the other ‘V’ bombers, the Avro Vulcan and Vickers Valliant, formed an essential part of Britain’s nuclear deterrent during the early part of the Cold War. Standing beneath the Handley Page Victor at Duxford feels like looking up at a spacecraft. That crescent wing, needle nose and high cockpit give it a look unlike anything else. Originally built as a nuclear bomber during the Cold War, the Victor later took on roles as a reconnaissance aircraft and air-to-air refueller. Its final missions were flown during the Gulf War in 1991, topping up Tornado fuel tanks mid-flight. This aircraft represents the end of Britain’s V-bomber era, outlasting the Val
