The 12s bring the noise and so do the @wastateferries. The Seattle/Bainbridge Island and Seattle/Bremerton routes will be flying the 12 flag high this weekend (and other routes may join in, too!) as we cheer on our @seahawks. 💙💚 Also, all in good fun, @massdot. All ferries are good ferries. GO HAWKS. Video description: A side-by-side comparison of Washington State Ferries vs. MBTA ferries. Several photos of WSF vessels show during the sounding of the horn. It has been more than six decades since Seattle’s downtown waterfront enjoyed a full day without the shadow of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The last weekend of summer marked the end of the double-deck structure’s presence along the waterfront between Pike Street and South Dearborn Street, near the stadiums. This 6 1/2-minute video captures the tremendous difficulty of the work and the depth of the transformation along the waterfront. Some streets and crosswalks remain closed as cleanup work continue

Building a highway underneath Seattle With a time-lapse camera mounted 54-feet high, you almost get a bird’s-eye view of work inside Seattle’s SR 99 tunnel. As the tunneling machine Bertha builds the tunnel, road crews are right behind – building the foundations, walls and the top deck of the double-deck highway drivers will travel on when the tunnel opens. It was a long month, Seattle. Here’s what we were up to. Enjoying a smoother drive over a stretch of the northbound lanes over the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge? That was a big part of the work we did during the month-long lane reductions. That work included replacing more than 900 feet of bridge deck with new concrete, installing 94 new drains to reduce water pooling and replacing bridge expansion joints. Oh snap! Thank you to all the adjustments made by you, the travelers, to keep the region moving du

We closed northbound I-5 through Seattle for the weekend, and we figured you deserved to see what crews did during that time. Take a look! Over this past weekend crews were able to set up a two-lane work zone by setting concrete barrier and restriping the freeway. They also installed 15 drainage structures and prepped expansion joints for bridge deck resurfacing starting today. During the next four weeks crews will resurface approximately 20 percent of the bridge deck, replace expansion joints,

Tiny scenes from the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge in Seattle, where the largest preservation project in Washington is well underway. Want to know what crews have been up to since we started work in mid January? Keep reading! Crews first set up the work zone and shifted traffic so we could safely get to the bridge deck. Then we completed milling - that’s when we grind off the top layer of old, worn concrete to remove damage and get down to a solid surface. Now we’re in hydro-demolition, which uses high-

MONSTER WEEKEND INCOMING! We’re a little more than 24 hours away from FIVE closures taking place in the Seattle metro area along I-5, I-405, SR 167, SR 520 and Mercer Street (on-ramps to I-5). Yes, it’s going to be tough, even for us (we use these roads, too!) But, if you plan ahead, give yourself plenty of time, remember monsters aren't really real and consider transit options (especially if you’re heading into Seattle), there are ways to get through this scare-free! A new 2-mile highway linking I-5 and the Port of Tacoma is coming and here’s an animation of what it will look like. Part of the SR 167 Completion Project, the highway will move freight more reliably to and from the port while taking truck traffic off local roads. Construction starts in mid-2022 and is scheduled to be completed in 2026. Once it’s done, the final project to complete the rest of the unfinished SR 167 between I-5 and Puyallup will get going. This past weekend crews demolished and removed the old Montlake Boulevard overpass in Seattle. Removing the overpass makes room to build a new crossing and highway interchange on SR 520 in the Montlake neighborhood. Here's a timelapse video of the weekend work. Speaking of Montlake, the Montlake Bridge will be closed this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for mechanical work on the bridge. This includes the sidewalk, which will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. |

While Seattle prepares to light up for the holidays, we’re preparing to unveil our own lights to improve safety and traffic flow in the heart of downtown. On Tuesday, Nov. 14, travelers on the northbound I-5 collector/distributor ramp and the Cherry Street on-ramp, near the exits to Madison and James streets, will see new ramp meters (a.k.a. traffic signals) shining bright red or green every day moving forward. Generally, they will turn on when morning traffic starts, and off after the evening c
