Did you know Alderney has the only working railway in the Channel Islands! 🚂 The Alderney Railway opened in 1847 to take stone from the quarries for the construction of the breakwater. It carried its first passengers Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, in April 1854 in a horse drawn tender. Our Railway was opened by Queen Victoria in 1847 and is the only remaining working railway in the Channel Islands.
