May 5, 2020 · Final Fantasy was partially inspired by Dragon Quest II. FF was a big hit in America, but in Japan it was sort of overshadowed by the release of Dragon Quest III just 2 months later. But Dragon Quest I wasn't released in the West until 3 years after it was first released, so it had a hard time competing with newer games.
