Artemis II is the second deep space mission for the program and will return humans to lunar orbit for the first time in 50 years. During the Artemis II mission, NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket will propel the crewed Orion spacecraft out of Earth’s atmosphere to travel around the Moon and back.

As the primary launch vehicle of the Artemis Moon landing program, SLS is designed to launch the crewed Orion spacecraft on a trans-lunar trajectory. The first (and so far only) SLS launch was the uncrewed Artemis I, which took place on 16 November 2022.
