The San Diego Zoo is currently home to Malayan tigers. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is home to Sumatran tigers. The Safari Park's state-of-the-art Tiger Trail features forest clearings, tiger viewing areas, and a pool for the cool cats. Tiger Trail also plays an integral role in the conservation of Sumatran tigers.

Two tiger attacks occurred at the San Francisco Zoo, in 2006 and 2007, both involving a female Siberian tiger named Tatiana (June 27, 2003 – December 25, 2007). In the first incident, a zookeeper was bitten on the arm during a public feeding.

Recognizing a tiger at the zoo is easy. But in their natural habitat in scattered, small areas in Asia, tigers are really hard to find. That’s because their unique orange, black, and white stripe pattern helps them blend into the forests and grassy areas where they live and hunt.

Tiger Trail, completed in 1988, brought the Zoo's bioclime expertise to a whole new level. A simulation of a tropical Asian rainforest, the exhibit was a huge undertaking. Its plants are watered with a custom, high-tech misting system.

Amur Tiger. Panthera tigris altaica. The largest living felid (cat) in the world, Amur tigers were formerly known as Siberian tigers. Their name changed to reflect their true habitat; they were previously found all over Siberia and can now only be located in the Amur River Valley.
