Amish Training Methods & Management Programs - The Horse …
Oct 7, 2009 · As I mentioned in a few other posts, Noah was predominantely an Amish horse before becoming a trail horse at a vacation resort in the Poconos. I know the basic ideas of how the Amish raise, train and keep their horses, but I'm looking for any detailed info that anyone has. How are their horses kept (turn out, box stalls, types of footing)?

Apr 2, 2023 · Again, Amish are human. There are good and bad. It’s not fair to paint them all with the same brush. I definitely think different communities and regions vary vastly in the way they treat their animals. The 3 Amish horses I have now have not been my only Amish horses….and I wouldn’t hesitate to get an Amish horse in the future.

May 19, 2011 · Just because the Amish do not treat their horses like huge expensive pets like we do does not mean they (general they, because we all know there are bad people in every sector) are abusive asshats. Their horses are a necessary tool. It behooves them to take care of them I agree totally The amish around here treat there horses ok.

May 9, 2011 · PK, I think you have a wonderful point here. None of the Amish folks that I know would ever dream of mistreating their horses; however, they don't take the time to pet and scratch them like most of us do either. The horses are caught, harnessed, and put to work. After work, they are unharnessed and either put back into a stall or their paddock.

Jul 13, 2010 · They were not spoiled like so many horses are by non-Amish, but horses really do not need everything people like you and I seem to think they do. They do not need stalls picked whenever there is any warning that their tail might be lifting in an attempt to take a dump; they do not need air-conditioned 14x14 stalls with padded stall mats and ...

Nov 13, 2020 · I really think it depends on the individual. My horse's trainer is Amish. Horses are his livelihood. He usually has a barn full of training horses, and he also buys horses to train and sell at auction. I believe he breeds both registered and unregistered stock. He doesn't pamper his horses like I do, but their health is important to him.

Oct 21, 2009 · Horses that act scared, nervous, anxious, hyper, out of control after being trained by the amish are not always responding to abuse. They are responding to lack of work. One thing for certain, the Amish work their horses. Lots. When they are found to be lacking for one reason or another, the Amish usually take them to the auction.

Feb 1, 2024 · I've always been curious about Amish horses. I was told the Amish aren't supposed to use flashy horses, and it does seem like their buggy horses are darker, solid colors. But I've definitely seen flashy ex-Amish horses. They appear to have a lot of Friesians and Haflingers, and I've also seen some Friesian/Standardbred crosses and some heavy ...

Jan 29, 2024 · The Amish are the same way with their horses. Our first horse was a 16 year old Appaloosa mare. At the time my inlaws had an Amish cleaning lady. They mentioned our horse and the Amish lady's comment was "our horses don't live that long." The Appaloosa is still here at 28 and still very ride able.

Jan 14, 2023 · Most of the Amish around me cherish their horses and put a lot of time and money into their care and selection…there’s also a few who are very poor and provide only the bare minimum. Those horses are treated as equipment and as such, take longer to learn how to “be a horse”. The change in the eye and seeing the spark return is very ...
