Nvidia lost 17% in one session, wiping out $600 billion in market value, the biggest one-day loss for a single stock in market history. Since then, Nvidia has recouped some of those losses, a sign investors may believe the sell-off may have been an overreaction.

Investors definitely weren’t thinking this way on Monday, concerned about reports that Chinese artificial-intelligence service DeepSeek was substantially cheaper and better than OpenAI.  This is a good time to remind all investors that the stock market is really just a manic crowd.

According to a paper authored by the lab, the DeepSeek-R1 model outperforms cutting-edge models such as OpenAI’s o1 and Meta’s Llama AI models across multiple benchmarks.
