Bird detection radars to be installed at all South Korea airports after Jeju Air crash - Thermal imaging cameras and detection radars will be fitted following the deadly incident in December

South Korean authorities said Thursday that all airports in the country would be required to deploy thermal imaging cameras and bird detection radar systems in the wake of the Jeju Air crash that left 179 dead.

Korean authorities are planning a broad deployment of bird-detection radar, as well as imaging and deterrent technology, in the aftermath of the fatal Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 accident. The aircraft suffered a bird-strike to both engines during approach to Muan airport on 29 December,

The feathers and blood stains on both engines of the Jeju Air plane were from the Baikal teal, a type of migratory duck that flies in large flocks, according to a preliminary investigation report published on Monday.
