A new Formula 1 season kicks off in Australia, giving us a chance to reflect on Lewis Hamilton's 2009 disqualification.

After months of waiting, it is finally race week for the first of 24 times in 2025. The season opener takes place at the iconic Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Australia. With the race closing in, the weather becomes an important factor.

The Australian F1 Grand Prix begins on Thursday and the local anti-Grand Prix lobby group Save Albert Park, still continue to think attendance numbers are a lie. Spokesperson for Save Albert Park Peter Logan joined 3AW Mornings to discuss why they are lobbying against the Grand Prix.

Aaron Love has split with Blanchard Racing Team just days before the Supercars season resumed at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The 22-year-old endured a difficult debut campaign last year to finish last among full-time drivers, and the struggles continued at the season-opening Sydney 500 last month.

As well as the added excitement of being the season opener, the Australian Grand Prix has also proven to be a good pointer to the championship. Of the 27 Australian Grand Prix held at Albert Park since 1996, the race winner has gone on to claim the drivers’ championship 14 times.

Formula 1 star Jack Doohan has been seemingly left stranded ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix later this month due to the impact of Cyclone Alfred. The 22-year-old is preparing to embark on his first campaign in the sport alongside Pierre Gasly at Alpine, having recently replaced Esteban Ocon in the cockpit .
