Overnight, 3-6 inches of snow blanketed southeast Michigan making morning commutes to work Thursday treacherous and closing hundreds of schools and districts, including the Detroit Public Schools, the largest one in the state.

On the heels of a snowstorm overnight that boosted the region's seasonal totals and sparked dozens of school closures as well as road crews working around the clock, snow squalls are possible Thursday afternoon across Southeast Michigan, the National Weather Service said.

Love is in the air with Valentine’s Day approaching, but so is the snow as it blankets communities in Michigan on Wednesday, Feb. 12. It’s estimated that there should be a four-to-six-inch snow total from Muskegon and Grand Rapids to northeast Lower Michigan, the Saginaw Valley area and southeast Lower Michigan.
