The NWS Raleigh NC issued a winter storm warning at 11:32 a.m. on Tuesday valid from 5 p.m. until Wednesday 7 a.m. The warning is for Edgecombe, Wilson, Wayne, Cumberland and Sampson counties.

Light snow showers may develop in parts of the Piedmont Triad on Tuesday afternoon with a chance for slippery roads. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Montgomery County and areas in the Southeastern Triad.

The biggest impact from the winter storm will be felt along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts where it does not snow very often.

A winter storm watch could be issued Sunday for the North Carolina coast, including Wilmington areas, as the chances of snow Tuesday night increase, forecasters said.

While snowfall amounts were trending down in North Carolina, they have spiked up: 'heavy snow possible' at the Outer Banks with a half foot of snow forecast Tuesday night.
