Following a Jan. 13 meeting when the Dare County Board of Education approved the decision, the Manteo High School gym was named after Stephen Basnight Jr. on Feb. 3.

As work continues to replace nearly 60 transmission poles, drivers may experience brief traffic delays on Hwy 12 in Avon as new poles are delivered over the next two weeks.
