Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested Friday at a federal immigration detention center where he has been protesting its opening this week and held in custody for several hours.

Baraka was outside the gates of Delaney Hall with three members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation - U.S. Reps. Rob Menendez, LaMonica McIver, and Bonnie Watson Coleman - who had come to inspect the facility.

Interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba — a longtime ally of President Donald Trump and his personal attorney — said Baraka “committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself.
