A federal judge has ordered a temporary restriction on the Elon Musk-led Department of Governmental Efficiency’s ability to access crucial Treasury Department payment systems, arguing that there is a risk of “irreparable harm” unless emergency relief is provided.

Democratic attorneys general in several states vowed Thursday to file a lawsuit to stop Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from accessing federal payment systems containing Americans’ sensitive personal information.

A lawsuit filed by 19 U.S. states said Elon Musk and his team could disrupt funding for clinics, preschools, climate initiatives and other programs, and that Trump could use the information to further his political agenda.
