Investigators have recovered most of the airplane and helicopter from the Potomac River, but continued searching for objects on the river floor.

Sixty-four people aboard a commercial airliner died Wednesday after it collided with a military helicopter midair near Reagan Washington National Airport. Both the American Eagle jet and Army Black Hawk are in the Potomac River.

The Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into an American Airlines flight was alerted to the plane’s presence by air control twice.

He indicated 27 bodies had been recovered from the airplane, and one from the helicopter.

The pilots of the American Airlines plane that collided with a U.S. Army helicopter late Wednesday night have been identified. Jonathan Campos, 34, was the captain of American Airlines Flight 5342 when an Army helicopter apparently flew into its path as it prepared for landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, D.C., CNN reported.
