DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — The Israeli army launched a barrage of attacks in Gaza on Tuesday as tensions with Hamas grew two weeks into a fragile ceasefire, and the group responded by saying it would delay handing over the body of a hostage. At least seven Palestinians were killed, health officials said.

Military and Middle East experts say a new Gaza rebuilding plan focused on creating secure enclaves, restoring stability and cutting off Hamas terrorists could succeed in the long term.

Hamas returned the bodies of two more Israeli hostages as the fragile ceasefire in Gaza appears to hold. CBS News' Ramy Inocencio has more.

Under the fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire, reached on Oct. 10, Hamas is expected to return all of the remains Israeli hostages as soon as possible. Israel agreed to give back 15 bodies of Palestinians for every body of a hostage.

Israeli strikes in Gaza killed at least 20 people, including children, after Israel accused Hamas of violating the US-brokered ceasefire deal and staging the discovery of a deceased hostage.

An Israeli security official said the transfer of aid into the territory is halted "until further notice," the first major test of the ceasefire.

Last month, President Donald Trump proposed a 20-point plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip ahead of this week's negotiations in Egypt.

The group still commands thousands of fighters, but the war has taken a toll on its weapons supplies, and its political future is uncertain.

The Trump peace plan calls for an international security force in the Gaza Strip, but countries that might send troops are wary of danger, an unclear mission and being seen as occupiers.

The Israeli military attacked the Gaza Strip for a fourth day on Friday, killing three people, Palestinian health authorities said, in another test of a fragile ceasefire agreement.
