The Great Northern merged with the Northern Pacific Railway, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway to become the Burlington Northern in 1970.
The museum is partnering with the American Heartland Railroad Society to restore a Great Northern Railway Steam Locomotive to operation.
Without the Great Northern Railway, there would be no Glacier National Park in Montana. The park was established north of the GN mainline, today owned by BNSF Railway.
