Apple may be bringing Touch ID back to a flagship iPhone for the first time since iPhone X introduced Face ID in 2017. But this isn't the Home button resurrection you might expect.
In what was supposed to be a back-to-back security feature for next year's iPhone, it was announced by a renowned integrated circuit expert via Weibo that the iPhone 16 is not getting a Touch ID.
Touch ID was first introduced 12 years ago on the iPhone 5S. At the time, Touch ID was as revolutionary as Apple's introduction of multi-touch technology on the first iPhone.
It’s accessible only by the Touch ID sensor. It’s never available to other software, it’s not stored on Apple’s servers, or backed up to iCloud.
It can keep working on more advanced technology, such as under-screen Touch ID, but having Touch ID in the side button would be a huge perk in the meantime.
