Embracer Group has reportedly cancelled the once-upcoming brand new Deus Ex game from Eidos Montreal, and on top of that hit the studio with layoffs to the tune of 97 developers now out of work.

Eidos Montreal is hardly the first to face layoffs, even this year. The loss of a possible Deus Ex game stings as well, but hopefully those affected will find their footing elsewhere.

Eidos-Montreal is the latest gaming company to be hit with layoffs. Four months into 2025, the gaming industry has experienced both amazing and not-so-pleasing news.

Eidos Montreal was founded as a development studio in 2007. This comes after layoffs in January 2024 after reports that a new Deus Ex game was canceled by Eidos Montreal owner Embracer Group.

This is where Eidos Montreal can lend a helping hand. Founded back in 2007, Eidos Montreal came out of the gate swinging with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Eidos-Montreal shared a message confirming layoffs of 97 employees, but did not comment on the Deus Ex title that's rumored to be cancelled.
