MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota man was sentenced to nearly 59 years Thursday for causing a crash that killed five young women who were out making preparations for a friend's wedding.

The receipt showed the vehicle was rented at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport just 24 minutes before the fatal crash. Thompson ran away from the scene of the crash but was arrested nearby.
Thompson, who also faces federal charges in connection with the crash, is the son of former Minnesota Rep. John Thompson, who represented St. Paul’s East Side for one term beginning in 2021.
