Honor Black History Month by participating in one of the many events happening around the city over the coming weeks. Here's a list of cultural events, places to visit and things to do in the Charlotte area this month.

Lela Thompson was the first black woman to graduate from Wilmington College, which is now the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Both screenings will take place at the Anne Louise Davis Room in the Plainfield Public Library, located at 8100 Park Ave.

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Craven Community College will host events at two of its campuses in honor of Black History Month. The first event is tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the Havelock campus and the second is on Wednesday, February 19th at 11 a.m. on the New Bern campus. The college says both events are open to the public.
