The Nationals-Phillies game heading into Tuesday night looked like it would be a good one. After all, it was pitting Nationals up-and-coming ace MacKenzie Gore against Phillies veteran and workhorse ace Zack Wheeler. It would end up with a wild ending that made most people forget about the starters.

The Phillies still won only because Bohm scored when he probably shouldn’t have on Rojas’ sacrifice fly and Bryson Stott scampered home on a subsequent wild pitch that culminated in the pitcher stepping on Stott’s left hand. (X-rays were negative later.) Stott said it didn’t matter; his left hand is not important. That was some new stuff.

Kyle Schwarber homered in the first inning for the second consecutive game, Max Kepler and J.T. Realmuto also went deep, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 7-2.
