Family members bade a tearful farewell Thursday to merengue singer Rubby Perez, who died this week when the roof of a Dominican Republic nightclub crashed down on him as he did what he loved best: perform for an adoring crowd.

Dominican Republic authorities have ended their rescue operation and turned to recovery efforts following the collapse of a nightclub roof on Tuesday, which left more than 200 people dead.

Rubby Pérez performed last Friday and those who were there told Eyewitness News that his energy that night was electric.

A deadly roof collapse took place at the Jet Set Club in the capitol Santo Domingo around 12:45 am, local news reported. Former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel and Montecristi Province Governor Nelsy Cruz were among those killed.
