A 4-year-old was attacked by a cougar in Olympic National Park and airlifted to safety. The cougar was killed.
Rangers responded to the attack Sunday near Hurricane Ridge, one of the most popular spots in the park. The following day, rangers killed the animal.
Rangers searched for the cougar immediately after the attack and were later joined by a canine team, the National Park Service said in a statement.
Cleanup crews are working to contain petroleum that leaked from a tanker truck that crashed and flipped upside down on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, spilling fuel into a tributary of a river that was recently restored for salmon runs.
