The U.S. Justice Department has sharply stepped back its anti-corruption efforts under President Donald Trump, from loosening enforcement of laws meant to stop companies from bribing foreign officials to directing its prosecutors to drop a criminal case against New York Mayor Eric Adams.

The US justice department has told federal prosecutors to drop their corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The order came from the acting deputy attorney general, appointed by President Donald Trump, who said the indictment had "restricted" the mayor's ability to address "illegal immigration and violent crime" in the city.

As a former U.S. Attorney put it, Eric Adams' case sends the message that “public officials who support Trump’s agenda will get out of jail free.”
