Victim in Big Cottonwood Canyon avalanche identified by officials
Authorities have identified the victim killed in the Big Cottonwood Canyon avalanche over the weekend as Higinio Juan Gonzales, 59, of Salt Lake City.

Two avalanches, one fatal, were reported Saturday afternoon in Summit County’s Dutch Draw area and Big Cottonwood Canyon. Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Arlan Bennett confirmed that one person was killed in a separate avalanche, and another rescued in the east bowl of the Silver Fork area of Big Cottonwood Canyon, near Alta Ski Area.
